Stanly County
Named for John Stanly, a Speaker of the North Carolina House of Commons and, later, a U.S. congressman. Early inhabitants of the area included the Saura(Cheraw), Keyauwee, and Tuscarora Indians, followed by German, Dutch, Scotch-Irish and English settlers.
Stanly county is a place so wide open and free, the feeling of connection and intimacy is immediate. Part of the closeness is the residents who call Stanly County home. From the moment you arrive you are a welcome and integral part of the community.
Albemarle
Albemarle is located in the beautiful Uwharrie Lakes region of Piedmont North Carolina. Morrow Mountain State Park is just east of the City, and attracts visitors from across the state. Tuckertown Lake, Badin Lake, and Lake Tillery are all located within a few minutes drive of Albemarle, and offer a multitude of opportunities for boating, fishing, and swimming. Camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities are available at Morrow Mountain State Park and the nearby Uwharrie National Forest. The City’s Parks and Recreation Department operates several beautiful parks and a large recreation program.
Strolling through the streets of Albemarle, you’ll see the old grain silos and textile mills that sprung up along the rail lines around the turn of the century. Also visit an impressive old high school, a turn-of-the-century opera house, and an old movie theatre dating back to the days of silent films. But perhaps the most interesting feature in Albemarle is the preserved Wiscassett Mill village which remains virtually intact in its early 20th century appearance.
Whether you are looking for a welcoming environment to locate a business or industry, or are seeking a great place to settle and raise a family Albemarle offers a wonderful opportunity.
